Now that I have your attention………. Vince and I were talking about our upcoming move and realized that yesterday was exactly 9 months from when we move. We both looked at each other and at the same time said, “We’re Pregnant!” I said, “Yes, we are giving birth to a new life.” ….and her name is Adventure!
She will need to be nurtured and loved, set free to explore her surroundings and learn the rules of society. Just like a human baby, everything will be new and different. We will soothe her when she comes up against bumps in the road, encourage her to stretch her legs and mind and cheer her little triumphs as if she had won the Nobel Peace Prize.
Along with jumping and playing she will also learn to read, write and speak her new people’s language. We will hug her when she is frustrated at not being able to express herself and let her know it is OK to have a time out. It is ok for her to take care of herself and hide in her bedroom if she wants…..but only for a little while.
There will be many firsts as she grows and evolves in her new surroundings. Her first mosquito bite, first Khao Soi, first grilled Snakehead Fish, first monk blessing, first making merit, first time attending all celebrations, festivals and holidays and we will make sure she has her first Durian ice cream! But eventually she will have experienced these events many times and the newness will be replaced with the excitement of memories past.
She will make many new friends and be adopted by family she never dreamed of having. The first thing I plan on telling her is…….”As long as you give genuine smiles and be yourself you will do just fine.”
